Arthur (Art) Earl Hines of Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, October 8, 2017. A resident of Mesa for 37 years, he was born Feb. 24, 1932, in West Elizabeth, Penn., to Arthur E. Hines and Mary Elizabeth Hines of Jefferson Borough, Penn. Art graduated from Clairton High School in 1950, where he met his high school sweetheart, Donna F. Pasquerell, whom he married in 1954. He then worked at Picco Hercules Chemical Corp in Clairton, Penn., until retiring in 1980. He and his family then moved to Mesa, where he started a second career at Talley Defense Systems in Mesa and TRW, also of Mesa. Art was an active member of his community, starting the Parks and Recreation Board in Jefferson Borough, Penn. He continued his volunteering in Mesa, serving the East Valley Men's Center by organizing the preparation of meals and collecting donations. He also served at St. Vincent de Paul by picking up donated food from local grocery stores and by volunteering for Turkey Tuesday, building many friendships in the process. Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher at St. Bridget Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna, and his twin sons. Art is survived by sisters-in-law Ann Hines (the late Robert), of Wilson, Penn., and Patricia C. Aglio (the late Carl), of Mesa; and by brother-in-law Gerard D. Pasquerell (Karen), of Pleasant Hills, Penn.; his children, Arthur E. Hines Jr. (Jamie), of Mesa, Kathy Wagner (Bert), of Show Low, Ariz., Paula M. Vaughn (Rick), Karl Dewey, and Patricia Kerns (Chuck), of Mesa; grandchildren Emily M. Wagner, of Charleston, S.C., Jeffrey Earl Hines, of Denver, Colo., and Amanda E. Hines, Felicia L. Kerns, Gillian M. Vaughn, and Elizabeth G. Kerns, of Mesa. Art enjoyed life. He loved to travel to new places all over the United States and abroad, visiting old friends and making new ones. He also visited college football stadiums all over the country. We considered Art the original "foodie"; he and his brother-in-law Carl loved to go to the seafood buffet at the local casinos. Art ate all over the world but one of his favorite restaurants was Costco, where, after cruising around the sample offerings, he would top it all off with a Polish sausage. Art was a passionate sports fan; he was an athlete in high school and encouraged his children to participate in sports, including being a baseball and softball coach for his children. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams and a longtime season ticket holder for Arizona State football. He was also a fan of the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University, where his grandson played football. He enjoyed going to college bowl games with his wife and friends. Art looked forward to each spring starting his tomato plants and having so many that he would have to give them away to anyone that would take them. He will be greatly missed by all of us and we are blessed that we had him in our lives. A viewing for Art will be held at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, Mesa, Ariz., on Monday, October 16 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. There will be a service on Tuesday, October 17, at 10:00am at St. Bridget Catholic Church on 2213 N. Lindsay Rd. in Mesa and he will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Reception will follow at St. Bridget.
