Jared Yates Heywood

Jared Yates Heywood, 88, of Mesa, AZ passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017. He was born in Salt Lake City, June 11, 1929 to Irving Yates Heywood and Florence May Ramsey. Jared served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in both Uruguay and the Spanish American Mission from 1950 to 1953. He met his future wife there who was also serving as a missionary in the Spanish American Mission. He later married Gloria Jacobs on February 4, 1955 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. He attended Brigham Young University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Secondary Education. Jared worked many jobs throughout his life including teacher, real estate agent, hospital administrator and licensed contractor. He loved working with the youth both in school and in church and served many years as a scout master. He was a faithful lifelong member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. He was an example of strong work ethics and strived to teach his children and others the value of hard work. He and his wife built a motel, apartments, and many houses. They had had four children. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Taylor Angulo, his parents Yates and Florence and four sisters: Janet Rogers; Shirley Baldwin; Evelyn Bushman and Velma Stratton. He is survived by his wife Gloria of 62 years and 4 children: Ann Angulo (Peter Angulo), Thomas Heywood, Lisa Markel, and Mark Heywood (Maggie Perezhey). He is also survived by his siblings Kumen Heywood and Elizabeth Middlebrook, 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the LDS Chapel on 933 E. Brown St. Mesa, AZ 85203. Viewing is 9:00-9:45 and the funeral services begin at 10:00 AM.
