Alan Royce Wilkins, Sr., 81, of Casa Grande passed away comfortably at home on Aug. 29, 2016. Alan was born on August 17, 1935, in Safford, Arizona to Alexander Elijah Wilkins and Millie Peel. He had five siblings, Velma deceased, Lavar deceased, Viola, Alvin deceased, and Alroy deceased. At a very young age his family relocated to the Mesa area where he spent the majority of his life. Major highlights of his life include the following: Graduated from Mesa High School in 1954 Produce Manager for Safeway grocery store Served in the Air Force Reserves in Wyoming as a teletype operator for two years Attended Arizona State University where he was a history major. General Agent for Allstate Insurance for 35 years Coached numerous team sports for his children Heavily involved and avid supporter of Boy Scouts of America Certified Master Gardener o Taught classes through the University of Arizona Extension Service o Volunteered and provided gardening advice to homeowners Volunteer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in many positions, including: o Bishop o Bishop's Counselor o Boy Scout Leader and Scout Master o Executive Secretary and Assistant Executive Secretary o Stake Farm Welfare Leader o Temple Worker o Primary Worker o Deacon's Quorum Advisor Family includes: Wife: Sallie Ann Hill Sisters: Viola Goulding, Velma deceased Brother: Lavar deceased, Alvin deceased, Alroy deceased Children: o Alan, Jr. Leslie Wilkins o Darrin Annette Wilkins o Mary Angela Scott Clouse o Steven Wilkins o Lisa Todd Eames o Jonathan Katie Wilkins o Ryan Mindi Wilkins o Randon Annie Wilkins o Cara Jacob Nelson o Tammy Standage o Cheri Chris Nagel o David Standage deceased o Nancy Doug Adams o Daniel Nancy Standage Grandchildren: 47 Great-grandchildren: 13 Alan loved the gospel, home and family dearly. He found immense joy in making new friends and serving those around him. He was gentle and kind and will be sorely missed! A viewing will be held at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa on Thursday from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10am at the LDS church building at 1555 N. Colorado Street in Casa Grande with burial directly following at the Mesa Cemetery in Mesa.
