Norma Jeanne Leathers went on to dance before the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015. It wasn't her first time but this time is permanent. She was 63 years young including the extra 19 years that the Lord gave her with her miracle. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Leathers, her daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Paul Mozurkewich and her two grandchildren, Nicholas Mozurkewich 13 and Emma Mozurkewich 11. Jeannie lived her life serving and loving others. She was known for her incredible smile and her wonderful hugs. People said that when they hugged her they felt like they 'were in the arms of God'. Jeannie believed that was because she had been in the arms of God. Jeannie always had a way of having something uplifting to say to people and she always jumped at a chance to help. Jeannie even volunteered and cleaned the restrooms at the church almost every week for 16 years. Jeannie was born on January 14, 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania and lived on her family's farm until she was nine. She liked to laugh and say that they were so secluded that she thought she was going to marry her younger brother Frank. Then the family moved to Casa Grande, where she graduated from Casa Grande High School. Four years later she graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in education. She wanted to serve by being a teacher. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Methodist church. Jeannie was married while in college. The marriage lasted 9 years. She calls it a learning and preparation time. Then she was married to Stephen Leathers, a marriage which lasted 34 years. Stephen says she was always the best there could be. He says that "she always exceeded my expectations." According to Steve she was a wonderful steward of their money. For 25 of her married years she carried a 3"x5" index card in her purse and kept track of every dollar she spent. She only spent in cash. Jeannie was a member of God's Grace Church in Scottsdale where she was a part of the praise and worship team. Every Sunday morning she danced before the Lord with tambourines, flags and streamers. It was truly an inspiring thing to see. Steve and another member said that on one occasion they saw an angel standing right behind her. She was also the newly appointed head of the women's ministries. Her next women's meeting was to be themed around Jeremiah 29:11 which says 'For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' No one knew that she would experience that even before the meeting. To you Jeannie I say "you are the best. I will miss you. You taught me to love and serve. You blessed me in so many ways. I am sure the Lord is saying to you right now, 'Well done my good and faithful servant.' You were the scriptural wife, my wonderful companion and buddy and my best friend. I look forward to being with you again." Stephen Leathers A memorial celebration will be held at God's Grace Church, 3214 N. 70th Street, Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 in the afternoon. You are welcome to come and celebrate Jeannie's life with the family.
