Jerry Lee Shumway
November 30th, 2002 - April 17th, 2012
Jerry Lee Shumway, 82, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2012. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Anne; brother, Linn Shumway; sister, Annette Shumway of Mesa, AZ; children: Sharon Shumard of Chandler, AZ, John Chester Shumway of Coeur d'alene, ID; step- daughter, Karen De Fusco of Hopkinton, NH and step-son Kevin Rathbun of Phoenix, AZ; grand children Jeremey Shumard, Travis Shumard, Monica Schultz, Cody Rathbun, Jake Rathbun, Matt De Fusco and Tiffany Dinwiddie; one great-grand child: James Dinwiddie and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was a Veteran Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and later was a Technical Representative for American Aviation Company and traveled to many countries. He retired from the Arizona Highway Department as Supervisor of Pupil Transportation and conducted clinics each summer for the school bus drivers. He was also the Arizona Representative to National School Bus Association and traveled to Washington often for meetings. He had some disabilities after heart surgery for almost 22 years and handled them with much bravery and determination. He had many friends in many states due to his work and in Phoenix and Mesa where he attended Mesa Union High School. He was an avid reader and could discuss many topics and had stories to tell to anyone who asked. A Graveside Service at his request will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 10:00 at The City of Mesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to The National Lung Cancer Society, 222 N. Midvale Blvd. Madison, WI 53705. Arrangements entrusted to Meldrum Mortuary.
