Robert George Phillips
July 18th, 1935 - February 23rd, 2012
Robert Bob G. Phillips was born on July 18, 1935 in Goodyear Arizona. As a young boy he grew up in Mesa. His teen years were spent in Pinetop AZ. He served in the US Navy during the Korean war. He was stationed in San Diego, CA then Corpus Christie TX. He served on the U.S.S. Intrepid, U.S.S. Midway and U.S. NAVCOMSTA, Pearl Harbor. He loved anything outdoors, hunting , fishing, and camping. He hunted with his cousin and best friend Charlie Carden, for deer, quail, duck, just about any animal. Mom was his fishing buddy in the early days. That's when they were the happiest it seems. He only stopped fishing about 10 years ago when his heart condition made it too difficult. He wasn't all play though. He was a carpenter by trade. He started working at Del Webb and Staggs. He made his way up in the ranks with Mardian, as a general superintendent, he worked on projects like Sky Harbor Air Port, Palo Verde Nuclear Plant and Mesa High School, to name a few. When he left Mardian, he joined JA Mardian and worked on various projects there until he retired in 1997. After another near death cardiac event, he moved in with us. Once he was healed, he once again became the creature of habit he'd always been. Only instead of going to a job site, he went to Bill Johnsons Big Apple. He'd have breakfast, and drink tea into the early afternoon. He even had 'his' booth! He was a fixture there for sure. He got home just before the girls got home from school so he could watch Judge Joe Brown and Judge Judy. He said she kept his heart ticking!! He is survived by his children, daughter Shelle and her husband Freddy of Mesa , son Jerry and his fianc
