Stanley Jay Wood, 50, of Mesa, passed from this earth on July 27, 2004 as a result of an automobile accident. Stan was born May 31, 1954 at the old Southside Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. He attended Emerson Elementary, Carson Jr. High, Westwood High School, and Mesa Community College. He was employed as a salesman and then later as manager of the Chandler store for Paul L. Sale Furniture Co. He moved to Flagstaff in the 1990's to work for Baker Bros. Flooring. In 1999, he transferred back to the Valley with Baker Bros., where he was currently working as a manager. Baker Bros. named Stan "Employee of the Year" in 2003. Stan was an avid sports fan enjoying the Phoenix Suns and the Diamond Backs. He and a group of very special friends bought season tickets to the Cardinals games and would always tail gate before the games, featuring great food prepared by Stan. Stan was a generous supporter of many causes. He had a special knack for anticipating people's needs, often even before they had a need. Stan is preceded in death by his father, Weston Wood. He is survived by his mother, Carol Wood, sisters Linda Nichols and Jean Powers, a step brother, Jim Wood of Panama City, FL, and nine nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Sat. 7/31 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hr. prior at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa, AZ. Internment will be at Mesa cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory could be made to Hospice of the Valley.
