John Burton Hawley
March 27th, 1939 - September 21st, 2023
John Burton Hawley, a long time resident and former Mayor of Buckeye, passed away on September 21, 2023 at age 84, surrounded by his loving family. John had many years of service to the community and county. He served as Mayor of Buckeye in the 1970's-80's which he enjoyed very much. He was President of the Buckeye Rotary, sat on the Buckeye Development Board, served on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, as well as the Planning Commission. John was instrumental in bringing The Buckeye Community Center to Buckeye, as well as planning and bringing to fruition the leg of the 202 freeway that now runs behind South Mountain. John loved to work and finally retired at age 75. He was the General Manager of Beam Corporation in Buckeye for many years and enjoyed his time spent there and his many associations. After the manufacturing plant closed, he oversaw the manufacturing division of the Arizona Prison System. He also owned an upholstery business, J & D Upholstery He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna, brother, Chuck (Sharon), First wife, Dixie, sons, Bob (Janie) David (Kate), Jimmy (Cheryl), Joshua, and step-daughters, Lori and Tammy (Kevin), as well as 24 Grandchildren, 34 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Favre, and daughter, Cindy Boone. John will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of service, kindness, and humor, will be remembered and cherished. Funeral services for John will be held this Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 25800 W. Southern Avenue, Buckeye, Arizona Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. preceding the service. Internment will be at 3:00 PM at the Mesa City Cemetery 1212 N Center Street Mesa, Arizona For those who cannot attend in person, the funeral service will be broadcast LIVE via ZOOM at 10:00 am MDT LINK: Zoom Link
