Ta Em “Sue” McComis peacefully passed away on June 4, 2023, after 90 years of a beautiful life. Born on November 27, 1932 to Yang Sik and Sun Kum Kim in Fukuoka, Japan, Sue lived her life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She moved to South Korea at the age of 13 and later immigrated to California in 1955. Sue married the love of her life, Bernard “Bernie” McComis, on September 16, 1955, and together, they raised their two daughters, Teresa and Tara at their family home in Marina. She was an avid golfer for over 30 years, and won multiple awards over the years, including two hole-in-one certifications. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, visiting home in Korea many times, as well as venturing off to Paris and China. She drove across the country many times with her husband and daughter Tara, and took many trips to Las Vegas to visit her daughter Teresa and family. She also loved to go for car rides to just about anywhere, especially to Asilomar in Pacific Grove. She also loved going to the Fisherman’s Wharf to get her salt water taffy, fresh fish, or a cup of clam chowder. She too enjoyed spending time with her friends; her door was always open and there was always room for everyone at the table. Her contagious laugh would light up any room and she was always dressed to impress. Sue is survived by her three sisters, Kwang Im, Myong Im, and Pan Im, her daughters Teresa Etopio and Tara Peguero, as well as her sister-in-law, Wuk Cha, and son-in-law, Art Peguero. Her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marcus, Kassandra Peguero, Gabriela and Taylor Etopio and great granddaughter, Belle, love her dearly and will forever cherish her memory. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her husband Bernie McComis. Their souls met again on June 4. Sue’s family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the caring staff at Mission Mortuary, and the staff of Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula for their compassionate care in her final days. Sue’s generosity and adventurous nature are things that will be dearly missed about her.

Mission Mortuary - Monterey

Being centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula and adjacent to the San Carlos and Monterey City Cemeteries, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire Monterey Bay Peninsula for many years. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
