Luz S. Neel, 97, was born in Manila, Philippines on November 3, 1925. Luz married George G. Neel and after his retirement from the U.S. Army, they ultimately settled in Marina, California over fifty years ago. Luz was a member of the Marina Fil-Am Club and St. Jude Catholic Church. On August 25, 2023, Luz passed away at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California to join her husband, who passed away nearly forty years ago. Luz was well known for her amazing meals, adobe and leche flan in particular. She fed her own spirit through bowling, charities, and friendships. She fed the souls of her family by cheering together in support of the Warriors, Giants and 49ers. As the matriarch, she raised a family with high standards, exquisite tastes, a little bit of sass and an ethic of servant leadership. Luz is survived by her two daughters Marlene N. Padilla and Cynthia A. Satow; sons-in-law Napoleon Padilla and Scott Satow; grandchildren: Derek Padilla, Lance Padilla, Sheena Padilla, Justin Hamana and Britney Satow; and great-grandchildren: Ava Padilla and Ace King. She is also survived by her sibling Leticia Martin in Manila, Philippines. Her family were her pride and joy and arguably the most important achievement in life.

Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
