Robert Kenneth Dixon
November 1st, 1949 - December 1st, 2023
Robert Kenneth Dixon, Jr. of Seaside, CA passed away on December 1, 2023 at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, after a brief and sudden illness. He passed surrounded by his family and close friends. Robert was born in South Bend, IN to Lydia (Green) and Robert Dixon, Sr. He was raised in Niles, MI by his paternal Aunt and Uncle, Menella (Dixon) and Rufus Leath, after the death of his father Robert, Sr. He graduated from Niles High School (1968), enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. After being discharged from the Army (1972), Robert made Monterey his home. He attended MPC and the Monterey Institute of International Studies, where he received his B.A.degree in Political Science. He then worked for Young Adults for Action in Seaside as a VISTA Volunteer, and joined the Monterey Legal Aid Society in 1975 as a paralegal. In the 1980’s, Robert moved into sales as an insurance agent and eventually ended up in the car business, staying for over 30 years. He retired from his management position at Val Strough Cypress Coast Dealership Group in 2019. In 1979, Robert married Lynne White in Teaneck, N.J. They had two sons Robert “Robby” (1983) and John (1987). Always a supportive husband and father, he celebrated the weddings of both sons and loved being a “Grandad” to his three grandchildren, Myles and his twin granddaughters, Avery and Sadye. His favorite hobby was listening to music. He loved all genres of music and enjoyed playing from his vast collection. A sports enthusiast, he was a diehard SF Giants, Golden State Warriors and Forty-Niners fan. He volunteered at the Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am Golf Tournament on the Contestant Hospitality Committee (20 years) where he enjoyed meeting and supporting his favorite golfers. A lifelong supporter and volunteer for a variety of charities and organizations, Robert’s spirit of volunteerism is part of his legacy. Robert is survived by his wife, Lynne White Dixon, sons Robert K. Dixon III (Meghan) and John M. Dixon (Ashley), his grandchildren Myles Joseph Dixon, Avery Lynne Dixon and Sadye Mae Dixon, and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Lydia (Green) Torbert and Robert K. Dixon,Sr., and his Aunt and Uncle, Menella and Rufus Leath. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10 am at the Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park in Seaside, CA. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Robert’s name to either The Village Project, Inc. or Chartwell School both in Seaside.
