Skylar Whitney Overton, affectionately known as "Skeet", passed away on January 20, 2024 in Aberdeen, Washington at the age of 42. Born July 19th, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, Skylar was the son of Deirdre Lee Gordon (Banks) & Victor Lamont Overton. Skylar grew up primarily in the Los Angeles and Monterey Peninsula areas where he attended various schools, eventually residing in Washington. During his earlier years on the Monterey Peninsula, Skylar and his family attended First Baptist Church of Pacific Grove. Skylar was musically gifted and enjoyed writing music, poetry, and singing. He was well known on the Monterey Peninsula for his music as an independent artist. He was a phenomenal basketball player, excelling in the sport during his middle and high school years. Skylar had a radiant smile and was known for his infectious laugh. He loved fashion, going to the casino, following the stock market, and cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Skylar is preceded in death by his father Victor Lamont Overton, maternal grandmother and grandfather Alyce Welch Rhone & Carl J. Banks, paternal grandmother and grandfather Monica Turner Overton & Rudolph Valentino Overton. Skylar leaves to cherish his memory a son Jaziah E. Thompson (CA), brother Douglas S. Matthews (CA), mother and stepfather Deirdre L. Gordon and Matthew A. Gordon (AZ), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, & beloved friends. He will be missed by all.
