Walter Ocie Dean Yarbrough,72, passed away on July 22,2014 in Seaside, CA. He was born in Marianna, Arkansas to Walter and Alice Yarbrough on January 11, 1942 and was raised in Clovis, CA. Walter attended Fresno State and received a BA in Social Welfare. During his lifetime, Walter lived in Canada, California, and New York. He worked for United Airlines and Skywest Airlines. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., 1965 All-CCAA football team (defensive back), All Valley Conference Offensive Team (2 years), and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Walter enjoyed bowling, reading, international traveling, listening to the Blues and watching westerns. Walter is survived by his wife of 34 years, Annie B. Yarbrough; Sons Walter Kevin (Sasha), Rejean Dean (Jennifer), Harry Relf (Cynthia), and Darren Relf; Daughters Melanie Relf-Campbell (Andre), Gwendolyn Relf-Mackenzie (Jerome), Keshia Relf-Abeyta (Tom), and Charlotte Claypool-Stevens (Ronald); Sisters Vernice Yarbrough-Carter (Archie), Versa Yarbrough-Thomas, Centhy Yarbrough-Hansford. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, 10 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter Yarbrough, mother, Alice Butler-Yarbrough, brother, J.D. Yarbrough and sister, Zenobia Yarbrough. Private viewing was held on July 25, 2014 at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on August 9, 2014 at Hays Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 625 Elm Ave., Seaside at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Walter's honor to Heartland Hospice, 2511 Garden Rd., Monterey, Ca 93940.

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
