Raden Ismairin Soekardi

Raden Soekardi passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Saturday, February 17th, 2018, at the age of 93. Raden was born to Raden and Rajayah Soekardi on May 22nd, 1924, in Indonesia. Raden lived in various places during his life including Semarang and Palembang in Indonesia and Monterey and Pacific Grove in California. After attending college in Santa Barbara, he founded the Indonesian/Malay department at the Defense Language Institute and became a celebrated language teacher there and an instructor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, helping many people throughout his career. In his spare time Raden enjoyed golfing, winning the Pacific Grove Open Championship twice. He sang played many instruments, entertaining audiences for many years. He was also one of the founders of the Islamic Society of Monterey County. Raden is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Myriam Soekardi, his sons, Ismyanto Soekardi, Iskandar Soekardi, and Ismansjah Soekardi. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.
