John Dee Lingenfelter
June 18th, 1926 - November 3rd, 2014
John Dee Lingenfelter, age 88, died November 3rd, 2014. John was born June 18th, 1926 at his grandfather's farm on Dibble Creek west of Red Bluff, Ca. At the age of 2, John's parents moved the family the family to Pacific Grove. John enjoyed telling stories of his adventures while camping with his brothers, Norman, Raymond and James, in the dunes at Asilomar, or sitting on the fence and watching the Calvary run drills in the meadows that are now part of Pebble Beach. John attended Robert Down Grammar School and was attending Pacific Grove High School when WWII began. John left school to join the Navy and proudly served on the USS Prairie. After the war, John worked for Safeway stores and Bigelow Mortuary as an ambulance driver. John "Possum" joined the Monterey Police Department, and remained in Law Enforcement for over 20 years. He later became a printer, being part owner of a print shop in Milwaukee Oregon. He then went on to become manager of several motels in Berkeley and here on the Monterey Peninsula. John is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Colleen Dolan Lingenfelter. He is survived by his sons, Gary and Jack of Monterey and his daughters, Gael Amend of Sonora, and Susan Lingenfelter of Modesto, as well as, 5 step children, 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the wonderful residents of Seaside Mobile Estates for their kindness they extended to John over the years. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 7th at 12 noon at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home, 1915 Ord Grove Ave. in Seaside.

Mission Memorial Park
For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
