Biography for Lloyd K. Nam He was born on September 6, 1937 in Pongchon-Sung, Manchuria to father Yu Nam and mother Kae-Chu Pak. His mother passed away when he was 15 years old. As the oldest and first son, he bore the responsibility of taking care of his four younger brothers and sisters. The family grew up very poor and it was hard times for everyone. But, it was during this time he discovered his love for studying, which later led to his pursuit for highest education. After graduating high school, he entered the Korean Naval Academy and studied military science for 4 years. He received a B.A. degree in English from Yeungnam University in 1963, later obtaining an M.A. degree in English in 1967. While teaching at Defense Language Institute (DLI), he completed graduate coursework in national security affairs at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1983. He served 42 years in civil service including lecturer at University of Maryland and Professor at Korean Department/DLI. In 1997, being accepted for a teaching position by Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) was the culmination of his teaching career. He was a devoted, loving father who lived for his children and later his grandchildren. He was a humble, dignified man who found joy in the simplest things this life had to offer. He will be greatly missed? He is survived by wife of 46 years Sue, daughter Yuri, two sons Jay and George, and three grandchildren Lauren, Kayla and Evan.

Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
