Peter H. Ferrante

Monterey- Peter was born in Monterey on April 6, 1959, to Victor A. and Virginia Ferrante. He attended Monte Vista elementary school, Walter Colton Middle School and graduated from Monterey High School. He spent his early years working on Fishermen?s Wharf, where his maternal grandfather Pietro San Filippo once docked his fishing boat The Virginia II, and close to the Booth Cannery, where his paternal grandfather Giuseppe (Joe) Ferrante worked. He spent the past 30 years working first for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and then for Stanford at Hopkins Marine Station. Peter had a profound appreciation of nature and especially loved observing our local flora and fauna. Peter?s outgoing personality, warm and genuine smile, and love for his family and friends will be missed by all who knew him; he was truly a blessing to those fortunate enough to be a part of his life. To know him is to love him. He leaves behind the love of his life, best friend and companion of 22 years, Freya Sommer; his brothers Victor (Leslie) Ferrante and their children, Rico and Mia; Joseph (Sherri) Ferrante and their children, Alex and Mackenzie; sisters Rosalie Ferrante and Marilyn (Elmer) Canady and their children Daniel (Tahra) Canady, Kevin Canady and Elissa (Kyle) Harrell He also leaves behind his cherished great nieces and nephews, Isabel, Rhys, Marlow and Blake Canady and Hope and Lily Harrell, as well as many, many cousins, who he adored and whose continued love and support nourishes us all.
