Eileen Fitzsimmons Murray
December 9th, 1919 - June 14th, 2012
Eileen Fitzsimmons Murray died peacefully at her home in Carmel, surrounded by her family, June 14, 2012. She was 93. Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 9, 1919, Eileen was the youngest sister to adoring siblings, Helen (Cahill) and Miriam (Meehan) and brother Charles Fitzsimmons. Affer graduating from Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York, Eileen married James G. Murray Jr. in 1942, and they started a life together that included homes in New York, Pittsburgh, Rome, Italy, Pebble Beach as well as six children: Jerry Murray, Joan Murray, Patricia Huse, Sister Pamela Murray (pre-deceased), Judy Allrich and Mimi Meriwether. Eileen was also the beloved grandmother of James Murray, Scot Murray, Deya Warren, Helen McClenahan, Christin Allrich, Jason Huse, Mathiew Huse and Stevie Huse and took special delight in being great-grandmother to Cade and Max McClenahan, Greta Warren and Nai?a Huse. Deeply faithful, Eileen attended Mass almost every day of her life. Her philanthropic interests and activities included the Carmelite Sisters, Catholic Big Sisters, Emmaus House, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Patrons of the Vatican Museum, Voice of the Faithful, Bread for World Institute and Morality in Media and The Community Foundation of Monterey, to name a few. Eileen will be remembered for her gracious nature, quiet elegance and lifelong love for the game of golf. That passion awarded her not only trophies but also lasting friendships, especially at Cypress in Pebble Beach and The Maidstone Club in East Hampton. Her family wants to thank for the loving care she received from Michiko, Fumio, Etsuko, Essie, Jun, Nanette, Herlie as well as help from Stella, Cathy B. and Cathy from Hospice of the Central Coast. A Celebration of Life will take place at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey, Friday June 22, 2012 at 10:30 AM with a reception to follow in Pebble Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Carmelite Sisters, Carmelite Monastery, 27601 Highway 1, Carmel, California 93923, Monterey Community Hospital, or Hospice of the Central Coast, 2 Upper Ragsdale Dr. D-210, Monterey, California 93940.
