Louis Anthony Russo
November 16th, 1931 - February 8th, 2012
Louis Anthony Russo passed away Wednesday, February 8th at his home after losing his battle with Leukemia, he was 80 years old. Born in Fresno, California to immigrant parents, Luigi and Angelina Russo. ?Lou? was the past Executive Director of the AT&T P.B. National Pro-Am. He retired from that position in 1998. He had become a volunteer in 1974 starting out selling tickets at the Carmel Hill gate, became Transporation Chairman, and after the passing of then Tournment Chair, George Brucato, Lou became Tournament Chair. Lou was instrumental in the transition of the Bing Crosby Nat?l Pro AM to the AT&T P.B. Nat?l Pro AM and asked to become fulltime Executive Director in 1986. Upon retiring, Bayonet/Black Horse asked him to do consulting work for them. Lou continued with that position until his battle with Leukemia became intensified. He wanted to work until he was ?80?, and he did! Prior to that Lou owned and operated Russo?s Home Furnishings in Monterey, Russo?s Carpets and Draperies in Monterey, Pacific Grove and Watsonville. Lou was past President of SCRAMP for two years 1980-1981; A past President and member of the Monterey Host Lions for 36 years; A member and past President of Corral de Tierra Country Club; Also member of the Paissano Club, Pacheco Club, Nite Caps and his Poker Group. Lou?s greatest achievement was his love for family and friends. This is written so you know how lucky we were to have had him in our lives and how fortunate we are to have been part of his life. Lou is survived by his most loving wife of 51 years, Janice; His children, son Randall of Fresno, daughters, Robin Stevens(Brad) of Fresno, Sherri Mercurio(Frank) of Monterey, son Dean(Christine) of Medford, OR; Grandchildren, Haley, Erica, Jocelyn Stevens, and Taylor, Frankie and Michael Mercurio and Lauren and Grant Russo.; Sister, Carmella Bandelian(John) of Fresno. Lous is preceded in death by his parents and brother John. A Memorial Vigil will be held Sunday, February 12th at 7:00p.m. at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey. Memorial Mass will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church St., Monterey.
