Yong Nan Hernandez

Yong Nan Hernandez, (nee Kim), a longtime resident of Monterey, passed away peacefully just before her 83rd birthday, on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Yong is survived by her beloved husband of almost 57 years, Jose M. Hernandez, who married her in the American Embassy of Seoul, South Korea, on July 9, 1957. She is also survived by and lovingly remembered by her beloved family: daughter, Maria Rubinshteyn, and son-in law, Vitaly; son, Luis Hernandez, daughter-in-law, Roberta, grandchildren, Tamara and Anthony, and great grandson, Jason; son Vincent Hernandez, daughter-in-law, Clarissa, grandchildren, Richard, Joseph, and Marissa. Yong was born in Seoul, Korea on May 12, 1930. She arrived in San Francisco CA on October 28, 1958. She sought and earned her United States citizenship in April 1968, and was ever loyal to her adopted country. She was a loving mother and spouse, who supported her family by working in a variety of jobs in Monterey County, including as a member of the housekeeping service staff of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Yong enjoyed time with her family and taking walks by the lake near their home. The celebration of her life will take place at a Catholic service at San Carlos Cathedral (http://www.sancarloscathedral.org/), 500 Church Street, Monterey, CA 93940 on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 9:30 AM. Interment immediately following at San Carlos Cemetery (http://www.cemeteriesdom.org/sancarlos/sancarlos.htm), 792 Fremont Street, Monterey, CA 93942 at 10:30 AM. Reception to follow.
