Daniel Mendoza Trujillo
December 2nd, 1927 - October 24th, 2013
Daniel M. Trujillo, Sr., 85, passed away in the comfort of his home on October 24, 2013 peacefully and with great dignity surrounded by family and friends. Dan was born on December 2, 1927 in Rio Vista, CA to Jose Trujillo and Evarista Mendoza and moved to Monterey in 1930. He lived in Santa Maria from 1942 to 1949 and then moved to Seaside in 1950 where he made his home with Florence, née Alvarado. He was a devoted husband of 59 years. Dan retired from C.L. Frost Roofing Company in 1987 after 37 years and recently received his 60-Year Service Pin Award from Roofers' Local 95. He enjoyed working on classic cars and was the proud owner of a 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline which he entered annually in the 4th of July Seaside Parade of Champions and a 1948 Ford Coupe. Every Friday evening during "Hot Cars, Cool Nites" you could find him and Florence on Broadway Avenue. Dan was a quiet man who will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and the many stories he enjoyed sharing with family and friends that often included his laughter and special sense of humor in his garage. He is survived by his children, Barbara Carballo, Dan Trujillo (Marki), Carol Daniels, Kathleen Gutteriez, and Marc Trujillo (Angie); brother, Raymond (Pam) Lobato; grandchildren, Danny III, Danette, Douglas (Marcie), Charlie (April), Michael,Lenise, Nicole, Jessica, and Jonnathon; and great grandchildren, Daniel IV, Elyssa, Charles, Danielle,Christopher, Kylie, Cayla, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; son, Rick; sisters, Rosalie Dillman and Ludivina Trujillo; and brother, Reyes Lobato. The viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Sharing of Memories at 7:00 p.m. and Rosary at 8:00 p.m. at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 1475 La Salle Avenue, Seaside. Interment will be at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside. The family would like to give a special thanks to Richard E. King, M.D., Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Staff, and Maryam Finnigan, R.N., for their care and support. Donations in Dan's name may be made to VNA Hospice or the donor's favorite charity.
