Mission Mortuary - Monterey
William James Krebs
April 8th, 1930 - February 13th, 2015
William James Krebs passed away at home on February 13, 2015. After his father Lyle (Slug) was injured in a mining accident, Bill and his brothers Bob and Bud moved to Monterey to be near family and so his mother Ellen could work in the canneries. Bill found his home on the Peninsula and established a life-long connection to his 1949 Class of Monterey graduating class and 1948 champion Football 'Dream Team'. His love of playing football continued at MPC and San Jose State. He embraced life, always active (water ski & boat racing, sport hunting or fishing) and never backed down from a challenge, whether reeling in a big salmon or fighting for labor rights. He was tough with a heart of gold. We always counted on him to be our 'go-to guy' for family history and welcoming neighbors and friends into our home. Bill had two careers, one in construction and one as a commercial fisherman. He helped build many landmarks in Monterey including CHOMP and the old post office. He held several positions in the Local, State and International Carpenter's Union, one of which was leading the apprentice program, where he treasured being a mentor. His fishing career started later in life and was a consuming passion. He is survived by his wife JoDee Krebs and four children: Steve (Frances), Calvin (Therese), Karen Grimsich (John), Jeff (Sabrina). Eight grandchildren: Lindsay Krebs Karges (Jeff), Roy (Elise), Stephanie Driscoll (Jon), Owen, Kaitlin, Cy, Emma, and William. And one great-grandson Hayden (Stephanie). A Celebration of Life will be held on March 1, 2015 at the Elk's Club 150 Mar Vista Drive, Monterey from 1-5. We welcome all to stop by and share some barbeque, beer and a story. The family would like to thank the following for their support over the past few years: Drs. Patrick Feeham, John Hausdorff, Richard King and Jerome Rubin. And the compassionate care of both VNA Hospice and Halo Specialized Home Care staff. Memorial donations can be made to CHOMP Auxiliary. The Krebs Family

Mission Mortuary - Monterey
Being centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula and adjacent to the San Carlos and Monterey City Cemeteries, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire Monterey Bay Peninsula for many years. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
