Veniamin F. Vagin
December 14th, 1922 - March 23rd, 2015
Vagin, Veniamin F., 92, loving husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith, esteemed by all who knew him for his common sense, work ethic, integrity, modesty, kindness, and charm, died on March 23rd. He led a long, rich life. A stalwart Russian Orthodox Christian, he treasured his relationship with Archbishop John Shahovskoy of San Francisco, and for years was an active leader at St. Seraphim's Church in Monterey. Born in Harbin, China to Russian parents who had emigrated as a result of the revolution, he came to the United States at the age of 5, graduated from UC Berkeley and worked at Pan American Airlines, Westinghouse, and Hayward Lumber Company. His 56 year marriage to Irene Wogak was marked by their deep love for each other, their shared faith, a host of good works, and two children. He is survived by his loving daughters, Anna and Dorothy (Mother Elizabeth) Vagin and two grandchildren, Caroline Gregory and Jake Heller. Funeral services at St. Seraphim's Church in Seaside, CA, Sunday March 29th at 6pm (Panikhida) and Monday March 30th at 11am.
