Monterey - Linda Joy Rodriguez passed away on April 22, 2015 with her son by her side. Linda was born October 11, 1943 in Monterey. During the final days of her lengthy stay at the hospital she was visited by many wonderful family members and caring friends. Linda was the daughter of James and Marie Rodriguez (both deceased) and is survived by her 'big' sister Rose Saunders (Bert). Linda is also survived by her son Darren Sullivan, daughter-in-law Suzie Sullivan, and granddaughter Charlee Sullivan as well as her nephew Steven Saunders (Juana, Leo and Giselle), niece Christine Russo, and godson Nicholas Russo. Linda lived in the Monterey area her entire life and was proud of her New Monterey roots. After graduating from Monterey High School, she worked at the Naval Post-Graduate School, the Aquarian House, Naval Enviromental Prediction Research Facility (NEPRF). After a personal tragedy in the early 1980's, she entered the world of bodybuilding, which led to a major career change where she could share her passion for health and wellness. In 1993 she started her own business, Functional Nutrition, and helped countless people in Monterey County improve their health and life quality. Linda loved her many cousins and relatives and looked forward to holiday gatherings when fond memories were discussed and great new memories were created. She was always expected to bring her beloved sweet potato pie. Linda was passionate about boxing and had many friends in the boxing world. A special thanks goes to the Garcia family for making her an honorary Garcia Boxing family member- she was very proud of this distinction. She was always drawn to the sun, whether sitting in her backyard or enjoying warm climate vacations in Palm Springs and Mexico with her family. She also loved the Blues and did not miss attending the Monterey Blues Festival with her sister Rose, for 27 years in a row. During 2006 her life went yet into a different direction, she became "Grammies" to her very special granddaughter, Charlee Sullivan. Linda cherished every moment with her, and showered her with love. "Miss Linda" was even hired on as an employee at Charlee's school. She took great pride in working with all the students at Bay View Charter School. Linda was most proud of being a grandmother during the twilight of her years. Linda's family would like to thank the incredible CHOMP nurses and nursing aides at Terrace West who treated Linda like she was family ans made her lengthy stay pleasant in light of the circumstances. Thank you to Dr. Tom Bradley for your dedication to her care. Many thanks also need to be extended to the CHOMP food servers, housekeepers, and transporters for the smiles and love that brought light to dark days. Services will be held May 2, 2015 at Mission Mortuary. Visitation at 10 and Service at 11.
