Left us to go to her God, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 Born in Merced, California to Jess and Isabel Arias. The family moved to Salinas in 1957 where Elaine attended North Salinas High School class of '62 and Hartnell College class of 1965. Her first job was as a sign painter for Monte Mart store in Salinas. A hard worker and quick learner, she rose quickly to Marketing Director for Monte Mart stores; she was highly valued and honored for her brilliant marketing promotions. When Albertson food chain took over she became their Northern Californian director. Elaine worked for them 16 years. Her next job (1979), as partners with Allen Kaplan, was for a direct mail weekly publication "The Shopper" covering Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. It became the biggest print publication in the area. In 1981 Elaine's true passion was opening "Sarita's" Mexican food restaurants in Marina, Seaside and Prunedale area for 30 years. To her employees and their families she truly gave of herself. In turn they loved and respected her over the years. A businesswoman of conviction, honor and integrity and above all a loving and giving heart beyond measure, she touched many, many lives. Becoming sick 4 years ago, she sold the restaurants and retired. A beautiful rose was crushed but left a beautiful lingering perfume that will never be forgotten. We love you and will miss you. Elaine is survived by her beloved daughter Grace "Sarita" and husband Tyne Whitmore, 2 beautiful grand children, Lucia 9 and Toben 2 and by her brothers Rudy Arias of Salinas, CA, Danny and Linda Arias of Madera, CA, Jess Arias of Carmel, CA, Michael and Nancy Arias of Salinas, CA, numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, cousins and many, many friends throughout and her best friend Delia Garcia. A "viewing" will be held October 8th, 4 to 8 p.m. at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA. A Celebration of Life will also be held on October 10th, 1 to 4 p.m., at the York School, 9501 York Rd., Monterey, CA (off Hwy 68). Bring your memories and a dish to share.

Mission Mortuary - Monterey

Being centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula and adjacent to the San Carlos and Monterey City Cemeteries, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire Monterey Bay Peninsula for many years. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952.
