Joseph Pagano
February 5th, 1916 - July 8th, 2012
Joseph Pagano, counselor and founder of the Monterey Peninsula Friends of C. G. Jung, died peacefully at Westland House in Monterey on July 8th 2012, at age 96. Born in New Jersey in 1916, one of 6 children of Italian immigrants, Pagano was educated at Columbia University, New York University, and the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich. Cited as his special interests: ?The phenomena of individual fulfillment.? Prior to moving to California where he established himself as a counselor, Pagano worked in New York as a career counselor, management consultant regarding personnel administration, and editor and writer of a major public relations periodical. From 1941-1946 he was Captain, U.S. Army, Field Artillery School Staff, and publications officer Joseph came to the Monterey Bay area in the 1980?s. Through his work at the Jung Institute in Zurich, he maintained his strong interest in Carl Jung and founded the Monterey Peninsula Friends of CG Jung. Through this organization he brought the works of Jung and Jung?s followers to the Monterey Bay area. He screened films, brought in speakers, organized seminars and retreats. He counseled individuals and set up groups where people could discuss their dreams. He wrote newspaper articles and became an icon in this area. A poet, tennis player, poker player, member of the Doc Rickett?s Lab Cavalry, he was known and loved by many. Survived by his wife Phoebe Pagano, son Robert Pagano, daughter Alexis Pagano, grandchildren Corey, Daniel and Katy Pagano, devoted brother Anthony Pagano, numerous nephews, nieces. He was preceded in death by sisters Rose, Mary, Anna, brother Thomas and his eldest son, Theadore Pagano. Memorial service to be held Saturday, August 18, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at St James Episcopal Church, Monterey, where Joseph had for some time been the oldest communicant. Celebration of his Life Reception following next door at McGowan House. Memorial contributions for Joseph?s final expenses and to continue his work may be sent to the Friends of CG Jung, 381 High St., Monterey, CA 93940
