Leonardo Tadem Acilo, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and cherished friend passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 88 years old. Leonardo faced the diagnoses of 3 different cancers, with the last being an 8 month long battle with lung cancer. Born on March 15, 1933 in Jagna, Bohol Philippines, Leonardo grew to become a well-respected, generous, and caring Barrio Captain. As captain, he built the first basketball court and later funded renovations for the local chapel. He immigrated to the United States in 1978 and settled in Seaside, CA with his wife 2 sons and 4 daughters. He began work in the states as a dishwasher at the Holiday Inn in Carmel, CA from 1978 to 1984 and went on to become a gardener at the Hyatt Hotel in Monterey, CA from 1984 to his retirement in 1998. Family gatherings were very important to Leonardo. He loved cooking and invited family and friends over to eat whenever he could. He also enjoyed maintaining his home garden of flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables, and frequented Monterey's fishermans wharf to catch a bucket or two of local fish. Leonardo is preceded in death by his son, Leonardo Acilo Jr. and daughter, Heralda Acilo. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Leandra Acilo and his 6 children: Rodolfo Acilo, Julia Mitchell (married to Milton Mitchell Sr.), Anecita Cagata (married to Nario Cagata), Marieta Aranda (married to Anthony Aranda), Carmen Acilo, and Benjamin Acilo (married to Jennifer Acilo); his 11 grandchildren: Emmanuel Tijing Jr., Jacqueline Aranda, Jeanine Latu, Milton Mitchell Jr., Jenny Lee Tijing, Angelica Marquez, Andrew Aranda, Carolyn Marquez, Leonardo Bradley Acilo, Lharcie Mae Acilo, and Liam Acilo; and his 7 great-grandchildren: Kaylee Aranda, Jayden Kim, Dajalynn Pajimola, Malaya Pajimola, Kalia Mitchell, Charity Latu, and Zoe Tijing.

Mission Mortuary - Monterey

Being centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula and adjacent to the San Carlos and Monterey City Cemeteries, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire Monterey Bay Peninsula for many years. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952.
