Richard L. Herr, 91, of Ocala passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at his home. He was born July 10, 1929 the son of the late Gertrude Stoll and Jacob Grant Herr. Richard was a native of Buffalo, New York and moved to this area in 1986. In 1976, Richard married the love of his life, Christina, and together the two shared many years of love and happiness. Richard was a United States Navy Veteran who served 24 years to his country. During his active duty, he served on the USS Gherardi. Richard followed in his father’s footsteps and became a railroad freight conductor for ConRail for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala and an active member of the Angela Santos VFW Post 478. In his free time, Richard enjoyed needle point and was a scuba diver. Survivors include his loving wife, Christina; children, Richard J. Herr, James J. (Rosemary) Herr, Paul (Lenora) Herr, Nancy (Timothy) Tryjankowski, and Melissa (Jay) Carr; and granddaughter, Amanda (Brian) Foote; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; and grandson, Charlie. A memorial mass with military honors for Richard will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, May 17 at 8:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences may be sent at www.hiers-baxley.com.
