SFC (Ret) George J. Carson
May 18th, 1933 - May 5th, 2021
SFC (Ret) George J. Carson, 87 died May 5, 2021 in Ocala, FL surrounded by his loving family at Cates House, Hospice of Marion County. The son of George A. and Ruth (Westwell) Carson, he was born on May 18, 1933 in Methuen, MA. After attending school in Methuen, George enlisted in the US Navy. He often joked that once he realized that he could walk further than he could swim, he joined the US Army. He was accepted into the Army Green Berets, training as a Parachute Rigger, then as a Demolition SGT. He served a four and a half year tour in Alaska and married his sweetheart Patricia A. Quinlan of Methuen. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Upon his return, SFC Carson was assigned as an Army Recruiter in Lawrence, MA. After his retirement from the Army, he enjoyed a second career as an Investigator for the US Dept. of Agriculture. George’s passion was riding his motorcycle. He rode with The American Legion Riders, Chapter 284 in Belleview FL and The Patriot Guard Riders in central FL. He rode his Trike from Florida to Anchorage, AK and to Nova Scotia plus frequent rides up the East Coast to NH. George was pre-deceased by his parents; his wife of 54 yrs., Patricia A. Carson; their infant son, William J. Carson; his brother and sister-in-law, William (Iris) Carson; brother-in-law, Joseph Bower; sister-in-law & her husband, June (Bernard) Valliere; brother-in-law and his wife, Edward (Teresa) Quinlan; as well as several nephews. He is survived by his daughter, Maggie Carson and her spouse, Joyce Dussault who he shared his home with in Ocala, FL for the last 10 years; his sons: Greg (Sharon) Carson Londonderry, NH; Tim (Teri) Carson, Antrim, NH. Grandchildren, Alicia and Deirdre Carson Londonderry, NH; Ian (Angela) Carson, Rory Carson and John Masellis of Manchester, NH, Mark Killgren Las Vegas, NV, Joe Killgren Nashua, NH and his great-grandson Jadyn Killgren Hudson NH. George is also survived by his two sisters Ruth Bower of Wilmington, DE, Nancy (Ron) Browall of Dunnellon, FL and his brother, Barry (Judy) Carson of New Port Richey, FL as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members. The memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 284 on Thursday, July 8th at 6:30 pm. There will be light refreshments after the service. The Post address is 5515 SE 109th St. Belleview, FL 34420. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL. on Friday, July 9th at 9:30 am. All attendees should meet at the cemetery parking lot by 9:00 am so we can be escorted to the burial site together. The cemetery address is 6052 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513. In lieu of flowers, a donation in George's name may be made to the American Legion Riders, Chapter 284 Belleview, FL (mailing address is 5515 SE 109th St. Belleview, FL 34420)
