William Joel Blackmon, Sr., 94, of Ocala, Florida passed away at his home surrounded by family on November 13, 2021. He was born April 9, 1927, the son of the late William and Sally Blackmon. William was a native of Winnsboro, Louisiana before joining the United States Navy for 21 years. He worked in civil service for 15 years and was an electrical engineer and Navy instructor. He was a World War II Veteran who proudly served his country. Following his tenure in the Navy, William and his wife, Eugenia settled in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to the Ocala area in 1988. William was a member of the VFW and Fleet Reserve. In his free time he enjoying fishing, deer hunting, and watching sports. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. William is survived by his loving wife of over 69 years, Eugenia A. Blackmon; his children, William J. Blackmon, Jr of Virginia Beach, VA, Lori Beth James of Charleston, SC, and Harry A. Umstead of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter. A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held for William at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, December 10 at 10:30am.
