Robert Colt Kirkland

R. Colt Kirkland, 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Citra, Florida on April 29, 2024. He was born on September 6, 1962, in Ocala, Florida, the son of the late Robert T. Kirkland and Kathleen Davis Kirkland. Colt was a native of Marion County, Florida, where he shared many years of love and happiness with his life partner, Melissa K. Hancock. Colt graduated from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1986. For over 37 years, he practiced family law and commercial and construction litigation. Colt was a brilliant and dedicated litigator with an unwavering commitment to his clients and community. His ethical and professional standards earned him an esteemed reputation in his legal community. With steadfast loving care, Colt enjoyed his life with his family, friends, cattle, and dogs. Colt is survived by his loving partner, Melissa K. Hancock, his sister, Morgan Wright, extended family, his close friends that he considered family, and his dogs, Zero, Katie, Sassy, Banjo, Miss Jo, Mandi, and Stocker. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert T. Kirkland, and his mother, Kathleen Davis Kirkland. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Clubhouse at Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club (8300 NW 31st Lane Rd, Ocala, FL 34482) on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the Memorial Service taking place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
