Capt William "Bill" Francis Conway,, U.S Force... Jr.
October 18th, 1971 - May 30th, 2022
Capt William "Bill" Francis Conway, Jr., U.S. Air Force, (Ret.) passed away on May 30, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born October 18, 1971 to William Francis Conway, Sr. and Judith Ann (Salvatore) Conway in Poughkeepsie, New York.Bill enlisted into the Air Force at the age of twenty-two where he earned the rank of Staff Sargent before being selected to Officer Training School and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Bill served his country well, deploying multiple times on short and long-term assignments. One of his proudest achievements was being selected for the Air Force Weapons School where he graduated as a Weapons Officer and earning the call sign, "Wild Bill." Before choosing to retire as a Captain, Bill was classified as a Major Select and IDE Select. He loved the Air Force and treasured all the men/women he had the pleasure of serving with. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Conway, Sr. and Judith Ann (Salvatore) Conway; sister, Anna Conway.Bill leaves behind his wife, Norma Gonzalez Conway; son, William Francis Conway, III; and daughter, Kaitlyn Conway of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters, Kelly (Larry) Richardson, and Eleanor (Rod) Mason; as well as many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.Bill had a zest for life and practical jokes. His favorite line to say when asked his name was "It's William but people call me "Sweet Willie!" In which his family loved to respond "no one calls you Sweet Willie!" Bill never met a stranger and this was proven time and again by people sharing the most personal details of their lives within the first few minutes of meeting. He made such an impact on everyone he met which was displayed by the number of people visiting him in the hospital. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
