Buck Helm

Leslie E. "Buck" Helm, 95, of Charlevoix,MI, formerly of Winter Haven, Fla., died Sunday, April 13, 2013, at Georgia House in Charlevoix due to heart failure. He was born May 19, 1917, in Wauchula, Fla., to Luther and Onnie Mae (Williams) Helm. Buck graduated from Wauchula High School, and served in the US Marine Corps from 1936 to 1942, having served at the onset of WWII. Buck married Marion Luthy in September of 1951. They made their home in Winter Haven, where Buck worked at the Post Office. He was a citrus grower and owned a grove in Wauchula, Fla. Buck was a member of Saint Matthew's Catholic Church in Winter Haven, and Saint Mary's Church in Charlevoix. He was also a member of Florida Citrus Mutual. On September 6, 2007, Marion preceded Buck in death. He is survived by his son, Robert M. (Cherie) Helm of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Christine (Mike) Lutz of Columbus, Oh., Angela (Eric) Nedow of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert M. Helm Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Lutz, Evelyn Lutz, Cole Nedow, Corrine Nedow. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 1:00pm, Monday, April 22, 2013 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. A Graveside service will follow at 2:00pm in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Winter Haven, FL with military honors.
