Cheri Mainard Ofner

Cheri Mainard Ofner, age 69, died in her husband's loving arms in her Colorado Springs home on July 15, 2021, after a long battle with her terminal illness of dementia. She was a 1972 graduate of the University of Texas and was a member of the gymnastics team. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance/Accounting. In 1971, Cheri met Lee Ofner at the University of Texas and they married in 1973 in Houston. In 1975, after her husband earned a Doctorate in Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, Texas, Cheri joined Lee in his U.S. Navy tour in North Carolina. They settled in Dallas and established a dental practice in 1977. Cheri and Lee eventually found their way to Colorado Springs in 1991.Cheri was an athlete her entire life. She also loved America with all her heart and was actively involved in elections and campaigns. Her letters to the editor were periodically published in the Colorado Springs Gazette. Cheri was very active in the El Paso County Republican Party for over twenty-five years.She is survived by her husband, Lee Ofner; their children, Jay (Jennifer) of Mililani, Hawaii, and Courtney Olson (Kirk), also of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Evie, and Aaron Ofner, and Kylie Olson. Cheri is also survived by several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
