Matthew Benjamin Hartling, Matt-a-ratt, age 17, of Monument, Colorado passed away June 4, 2021.Matthew was born in Liberal, Kansas on November 8, 2003. He joined the Hartling family through foster care October 20, 2006 and was officially adopted November 1, 2007.Throughout his school career, Matthew attended Kilmer Elementary as well as Lewis Palmer Elementary School, Lewis Palmer Middle and Lewis Palmer High School. He did a year of homeschool, where he completed his junior year.Matthew loved being involved in his youth group from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always served with a smile and glowing positive attitude. His willingness to help and lend a hand at any given moment was one of Matthew's many Christ-like attributes.Matthew loved camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and tinkering on anything with a motor. He had a true love for the outdoors; if he had free time, he could be found outside exploring in one way or another. Matthew also loved his coin collection. He would study and view his coins daily and was always excited to share about his amazing finds. He was always on the lookout for a new treasure.Matthew was a beloved son, a compassionate brother, a loving uncle, a loyal friend and a dedicated neighbor. He was a tenderhearted young man who was a friend to everyone he met. He has now taken on another very important role, serving as a guardian angel to his younger brother. Matthew has an abundant amount of experience with this, as he was Nate's biggest protector and champion while here on earth.He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Rex and Una Peterson of Utah, and Leanard and Catherine Barned of Montana.Matthew lives on through the hearts of his parents, Sean and Pamela Hartling; his sister, Krystyna Hartling; brothers, Michael Hartling, Anthony Hartling, and Nathaniel Hartling; sister-in-law, Chantelle Hartling; nephew, Everett Hartling; his grandparents, Harrison and Rexine Chesbrough, John and Karen Hartling, and Sherman Morlen; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.Memorial contributions in Matthew's memory may be made to The Hartling Family.Visitation, 10:00AM, Funeral Service immediately following, 11:00AM, Saturday, June 12, 2021, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 950 Highway 105, Monument, Colorado 80132.
