James Whitby, 84, of Haines City, FL passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Residence Center. Born January 9, 1930 in Warrington, Cheshire, England he moved here 17 years ago from Chicago, IL. He was an Electrical Engineer and had worked for Cunard Cruise Line and retired from Doubletree Hotel where he was a Hotel Regional Engineer. James was of the Episcopal Faith and served in the Merchant Navy of England. He is preceded in death by a son, Johnny Whitby, and survived by: his wife of 20 years, Jacqueline; a son, Richard Whitby and his wife Brenda of London, England; a daughter, Victoria Baines and her husband, Nicholas of Suffolk, England; a sister, Audrey Hilditch of Frodsham, England; 2 brothers, Ronald Whitby of Lancashire, England and David Shaw of Frodsham, England; and 2 grandsons, Geoffrey and Matthew Whitby. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm till 3:00pm, Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. Services will begin at 3:00pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations in his name to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent at www.oakridgefuneralcare.com.
