Erna Christie

Erna Christie of Winter Haven, Florida passed away on February 28, 2015. She was 90. Erna was born on October 19, 1924 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies to Theophilus and Frances Emily Salmon Samms. She moved to Florida in 1992 from Jamaica. Erna was Christian by faith who truly believed in the word of God, a favorite Psalm of hers was Psalm 100 "1 (A Psalm of praise.) Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Other favorites of Erna's was to read poetry and tell a good joke, she believed a laugh could soothe a troubled soul. As well as spending time with her family especially her great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, George Christie. Erna is survived by her loving family, daughter, Brenda Diaz of Winter Haven, FL; sons, Lenworth Christie and Noel Christie, both of Jamaica; daughter, Dionne Hacker of Fort Lauderdale, FL; sisters, Monica Burrowes and Constance Samms, both of New York; brother Mervyn Samms of Connecticut; several grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
