June 6th, 1938 - February 16th, 2016
HAINES CITY - Mary "Mag" Gunter-Joyner, 77, of Haines City entered into Eternal Joy Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. The youngest of 7 children, she was born in Columbus, Mississippi on June 6, 1938 to the late Cecil Gunter and Isabell Moody-Gunter. Mag was united with God at an early age at the San Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Hamilton. Later in life she became a member of Tabernacle of Praise under the leadership of Pastor Jonathon and Marye Anglin. She attended Haines City Public Schools in Polk County, graduating in 1957 from the Oakland Jr/Sr High School where she was a cheerleader and star basketball player. Mag received her AA degree from Polk Community College, graduating from Mr. Dell's Beauty School for Cosmetology. Mag worked for many years as a cosmetologist, Secretary at Purdue University Extension Program in Indianapolis, IN, Hospitality Supervisor at Sheraton Lakeside, Secretary of Probation and Payroll in Winter Haven, Manager of The Long Branch in Lake Hamilton, and after retirement as a Nanny, Domestic Worker, CNA and Caregiver. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters Mae Sue Jacob, Mildred Tyler and Willie Nell Taylor; brother Bennie Will Gunter; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and grandparents. She leaves to cherish many fond memories of a life well lived and her passing will greatly impact the lives of those she left behind. She is survived by her 5 children Vivian Gunter-Barrett and her husband Keith of Winter Haven, Kathy Howard of Gallatin, TN, Stanley Gunter Butler of St. Petersburg, Rhonda Faniel of Haines City and Angelique Walker of Winter Haven; 16 brilliant grandchildren Shlasha Faniel Jenkins and her husband Larry, Shakia, Shardah, Almesia, Naquiesha, Joshua, Whitney, Romeo, Drakkar, Keith, Nakeithsha, Stannira, Shamori, Seth, Rashan and Donovan; 10 blessed great grandchildren RJ, Logan, Chavese, Cali, Kimoni, Braylon, Amory, Timmeria, Ja'Kayla adn Will Carter; sisters Corine Robinson and her husband Ernest of Lake Hamilton and Tobbie Cheeseborough and her husband George of Indianapolis, IN; as well as a sincere host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, devoted friends Lynn Bodison and Mandy Mathews, Godson Keith Wilson and the Class of 1957, who all loved her dearly. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11AM at NorthRidge Church in Haines City. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Haines City.
