Francis Lee Weber
February 8th, 1937 - February 18th, 2024
On February 18, 2024, Francis Lee Weber, 87, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away at a hospital in Winter Haven, Florida, with his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Patricia, and his son Brad at his bedside. Francis was born in the small northeast Kansas town of Home to Helen and Floyd Weber on February 8, 1937. He was the eldest son in a family of 11 children. While attending school, he worked on his grandfather’s farm and at a grocery store but his love of movies, particularly westerns, began when he worked as an usher at the local theater. Francis joined the US Air Force in 1956. First meeting on a blind date, Patricia Matson and Francis were married in Axtell, Kansas in December of 1958. The first years of their marriage were spent in Tucson, Arizona where Francis was serving at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Francis was not allowed to tell Patricia what his top-secret military work entailed but years later he disclosed he was on a daily assignment to dismantle atomic bombs beneath a tent in the middle of the Arizona desert. After leaving the Air Force in 1961, Francis and Pat moved back to Kansas where he ran the Home Imperial Filling Station. After that he spent 20 plus years managing Safeway grocery stores in Kansas and Nebraska and another 20 years with Fleming Foods in the Kansas City area. Never one to be idle, in retirement Francis started his own business sharpening blades for the pet food industry which he still operated until recently. Francis loved being with his family, fishing on his friend Ray’s private lake, traveling, and camping. He was truly someone that could fix and build ANYTHING. He loved watching his favorite sports teams on TV including the KC Chiefs, Kansas Jayhawks, and when they were winning, the KC Royals. Family Who Went Before Francis was predeceased by his father Floyd Weber, his mother Helen Miller, his daughter Pam Weber, and granddaughter Meghan Miranda. Family He Left Behind Francis is survived by wife Patricia and his son Brad Weber. Francis was a wonderful grandfather and was devoted to his granddaughters Brittany Blankenship (Benjamin) and Samantha Weickert as well as two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Ezra Blankenship. On Patricia’s side of the family, he leaves behind brother-in-law Ken Matson (Mary) and sister-in-law Jeannie Heinen (Dale) and nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Francis was the eldest son of 11 children and he leaves behind all 10 siblings including Marilyn Wing (Herman), Barbara Pence (Perry), Ronald Weber (Karlene), Galen Weber (Jeanette), Patty Hudson (Ed), Leeman Weber (Linda), Richard Weber (Nancy), Terry Weber (Sherry), Kathy Grove (Earl), and Colleen Johnson (Ken) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
