Wilmer "Hoss" Bamberg

Mr. Wilmer Horace “Hoss” Bamberg went home to be with our Lord, Thursday, September 14, 2023. Hoss was born October 15, 1947 in Bonifay, Florida to William and Irlie Muriel Bamberg. The family moved to the Winter Haven, Florida area in 1950. He attended local schools and later graduated from St. Leo University. Hoss was a teacher and head football coach at his alma mater, Winter Haven High School. He later bought citrus fruit on the open market and in the years prior to his retirement, he was a master barber. He retired in 2018 and moved to Slocomb, Alabama where he renovated an old 1942 farmhouse into a retirement home where he enjoyed raising gamecocks, nourishing his grapevines and fruit trees and fishing. Hoss was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irlie Muriel Bamberg, eight brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Bamberg; his son, Jason Bamberg of Fadette, AL; his step-daughter, Wendy Wells (Shay) of Slocomb, AL; his brothers, Gene Bamberg (Helen) and Steve Bamberg, both of Winter Haven, FL; two sisters, Juanita Murphy of Winter Haven, FL and Joann Coleman (Marvin) of Auburndale, FL; over 30 plus nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday September 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Oak Ridge Funeral Care with a memorial service at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park in Auburndale, Florida.
