Luisa Ivet Chaparro
June 21st, 1948 - April 26th, 2024
Luisa Ivet Chaparro was born on June 21, 1948 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Rosendo Ocasio and Leonor Rodriguez. After living full of love and service, Luisa passed from this life into the presence of Christ on April 26, 2024.
Luisa married Epifanio Chaparro on May 25, 1974. Their union brought forth two children, Onorio and Carmen. Luisa was a domestic engineer (homemaker is the classic term) for the first eleven years of their marriage. Then, after Epifanio could no longer work, Luisa became a home daycare provider with the Friends of Crown Heights. Following in the steps of her entrepreneurial mother, Leonor, and aunt Ramona, Luisa's home cared for countless children until her retirement in 2013.
Despite facing numerous battles and enduring heartache, Luisa lived up to her name, which means renowned warrior, and her middle name, Ivet (Yvette), which means archer. She fought back with her generosity and perseverance, caring sacrificially for her mother, Leonor, until her passing in 1993. She remained a faithful wife, caring for her husband, Epifanio, until his passing in 2001. Luisa's endurance of these trials while maintaining her loving nature and diligence as a daycare provider is a testament to her strength.
Luisa was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a keen eye, able to see through people's exteriors and into their hearts. Luisa’s discernment about people was never wrong. Luisa was a woman of the Spirit, offering sound counsel on how to engage any enemy. She was an artist at heart, always drawing, painting, and coloring. Luisa had a deep love for nature and a thirst for knowledge, always seeking to learn more. She kept her mind sharp with all sorts of puzzles. But what Luisa enjoyed most were love stories, and she had a disdain for any movie that didn't end with the main characters married and with children. A true romantic, Luisa believed that love springs eternal.
Born in Puerto Rico but a Brooklyn girl for most of her life, Luisa took a step of faith and adventure, moving to Florida after the pandemic in September 2021. In Florida, she resided with her son, Onorio, his wife, Aviance, and their four children. On this new adventure, love surrounded Luisa, celebrating and caring for her. Luisa started making new friends at the Christian Cultural Center’s Orlando campus, and they will miss her presence.
Luisa's legacy continues through her son, Onorio, his wife Aviance, and her four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Ariana, Isaiah, and Elisha; Luisa's daughter, Carmen, who resides in Brooklyn, New York; and Luisa's two brothers, Antonio Ocasio (wife, Jean, children Carisha and Cordero) and Reuben Ocasio (partner, Susan).
On behalf of the family, thank you for loving and celebrating Luisa.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 5-6pm with Funeral services starting at 6pm.
All services will take place at Oak Ridge Funeral Care 2425 Havendale Blvd. Winter Haven, FL.
