Betty Jo Harris Pollard Vaughan, 87, of Gulfport Fl, died March 21, 2022. She was a loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Grovania Ga, Betty’s life exemplified service to others. To help her family, at 11 years old she got a job packing peaches in central Ga. As a teenager, Betty worked at a skating rink, a drive-in theatre, and was a lifeguard at a local pool. At Warner Robins High School, she was editor of her class yearbook and president of the Future Homemakers of America. As a young military spouse stationed in Japan, she was active in Little Theater and won Best Director for her production of “The Monkey’s Paw”. In time, upon her return to Warner Robins, she was left to raise five children on her own. She worked to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and later a Registered Nurse, working in Warner Robins and Macon Ga. She continued her career as an R.N. in Gulfport until her retirement. Then she created "Betty's by the Beach Boardinghouse" in her home. She welcomed anyone - travelers, exchange students, co-workers, and church members in need. And for 12 years, Betty was caregiver to her mother and older brother. In all this time, she was a faithful Sunday School teacher, creating Church for Children at Southside Baptist Church in Warner Robins from 1965-1981, then at Pasadena Baptist Church in Gulfport from 1981-2011. Betty Jo loved music, nature, adventure, and games with family and friends. Most of all, she loved the Lord.
