Thomas L. Seymour
November 21st, 1941 - December 21st, 2020
Thomas L. Seymour, 79, of Winter Haven passed away December 21, 2020, at Winter Haven Hospital Emergency Room. Tom was born November 21, 1941, in Danville, Illinois. He was the son of Charles Henry Seymour and Doris (Kay) (Hogan) Seymour. The Seymours moved to Lake Wales when Tom was a child. As a teenager, he shared a love of horses with his Dad and they spent as much time together as they could herding cattle across Buster Island. He graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1961. In high school he excelled in sports and had a try out with the San Francisco Giants. He was a good catcher but not quite fast enough for them. He enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1962-1966. Upon leaving the service, he obtained a degree in Criminal Justice from Polk Community College. After serving in the Vietnam war in telecommunications, he was an engineer for GTE, which later became Version, for 32 years. He later worked in the same field for William Kriston and Sons for 13 years. He rode with the Highway Patrol for 12 years. Tom also served as a director of the Passion Play from 1979-1984 and was a Methodist by faith. His last venture volunteering was at Kissimmee State Park and he loved spending his time there near Buster Island. On July 24, 1971, Tom married the love of his life, Ann Oster, at Bok Tower Gardens and in 1973 they became parents of their son, Daniel. Tom dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters particularly. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a true friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Charles Michael (Mickey) Seymour. He is survived by his wife, Ann, son, Daniel (Tina) Seymour, granddaughters Hailey of Middleburg, FL, Taylor of Winter Haven, FL, brothers William Seymour and Johnny Seymour of Lake Wales, FL as well as a brother in law and sister in law, Barak and Janet Burr of Coldwater, MI and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and private disposition of ashes and a gathering will occur at a later date. At his request, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Polk County, 3195 Dundee Rd., Winter Haven, FL 33884.
