SMSgt Billy Taylor Mitchell, USAF,
May 22nd, 1937 - September 21st, 2017
Billy Mitchell, 80, left this life on September 21, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Billy was born to William Nathan and Charlotte Vie (Hall) Mitchell on May 22, 1937 in Tomnolen, Mississippi. Upon completion of high school, he joined the United States Air Force on June 23, 1954. During his Air Force career, he received numerous commendations including: Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, and on several occasions, the Air Force Commendation Medal. He retired in March of 1978 as a Senior Master Sergeant.Billy was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Cora Lee (Penhollow) Mitchell; two daughters, Gayle Lynn (Mitchell) Landrum-Montgomery and her husband, Eric, and Donna Lee (Mitchell) Carns Archuleta and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Johnathan Taylor Romeo (Julie), Leionna Lynn Yazzie, Lindsay Rae Romeo (Bobby Carrillo), Carey Leland Landrum (Mary Kittle), Nathanial Lauren Carns (Edy Garcia), and Hilary Marie Carns; twenty great-grandchildren, with number twenty-one on the way; and his two sisters, Mary Charlotte Rosson and Willie Sue Crimm.Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Hilltop Baptist Church, 6915 Palmer Park Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80915.Graveside Service, 2:15PM, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
