Riley Calen Winters

Riley Winters, a fifteen year old ninth grader at Discovery Canyon Campus school died tragically on Monday, May 16, 2015 in Colorado Springs. She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, devoted friend and adventurer.Riley Calen Winters was born on February 21, 2001 in Honolulu, Hawaii to William Ray Winters and Lucrecia Guzman Sjoerdsma. She went to Antelope Trails and Discovery Canyon Campus Elementary Schools and then Discovery Canyon Campus Middle and High School.She was involved in softball and track, loved rocks and rock climbing, was a member of the SCC Climbing Club and was a talented young artist. She was a member of Rock Family Church, The Barn, Young Life and B2Teen. Riley liked to ski and hike all around Colorado. She was a budding archeologist who loved plants, bugs, nature, fishing, and hunting with her dad. She also loved trips up to the family cabin at Bear Trap Ranch, near Cripple Creek and enjoyed going to beaches all over the country with mom and Joel.She leaves behind her parents: William (Alexandra) Winters, and Lucrecia (Joel) Sjoerdsma. She is also survived by her brothers: Phillip Chase Winters and William Cade Winters; her sisters: Aubriana Raine Winters and Ainsley Brielle Winters, and her grandparents: Zoila (Jorge) Leiva of Guatemala and Mary Gromko of Colorado Springs and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles throughout Colorado, Oregon, Maryland, Guatemala, Michigan, and North Carolina.Memorial Service, 10:00AM, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Rock Family Church, 4005 Lee Vance View, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the GoFundMe account in her name.Riley will be remembered best by all who loved her for the many kindnesses and acts of caring she showered on her many friends, classmates and family members. She was never without an encouraging word, hug, and heartfelt smile.
