Ione May Haverkorn

Ione Haverkorn, 92, was born in Littleport, Iowa, Clayton County, Iowa. After high school, Ione moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Collins Radio Company starting in 1942 and was one of the early women to be hired by the company. In 1944, she went to Colorado Springs on vacation and "forgot to go back". She met John Haverkorn in Colorado Springs who had been sent to Peterson Field with the Army Air Corp during WWII. They were married October 15, 1945.Besides managing her household, she worked as a waitress in several restaurants over the years. A very outgoing person, she enjoyed all the people that were her customers over the years. A frustrated artist, she never pursued her natural talents, until in 2011, moving into an independent living center, where she then had the time to dabble in art as a hobby. In the later years she enjoyed her grand and great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; Frank Combs (1890-1984), Ruby Iona (Morley) Combs (1897-1998), her husband; John H. Haverkorn (1923-2012), and her sister; Alice Marie Johnson (1928-2015).She is survived by her son; Dwight (Susan) Haverkorn, three grandchildren; Bryan Haverkorn of Phoenix, Arizona, Jody Haverkorn and Chad (Holly) Haverkorn, and three great-grandchildren; Kyle, Bryce, and Winter, all of Colorado Springs.Celebration of Life, 2:00PM to 4:00PM, Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the Inn at Garden Plaza's Chapel, 2520 International Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
