Niel Jerome Bakel

Niel Jerome Bakel passed away on January 25, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born on September 26, 1933 to William G and Refelia E. (Grill) Bakel in Streator, Illinois. He graduated high school in 1951 and enlisted into the USAF in 1953. He was stationed at March AFB in California where he met and married Frances Mattorano (who preceded him in death). He and Frances had eight children, all of whom are still living. After serving eleven years he went on to work for Rainbo Bakery, McCarthy Plumbing, and Yellow Cab Company, then he and his wife bought their own Submarine shop called Fran's Subs, before retiring.He is survived by his children Sherry Lee Lindoerfer, Anita Lynn Kasa, Mark Lane Bakel, Gina Maria McClenton, Shannon Rene Bakel, Tina Elizabeth Arce, William Frank Bakel and Jeremy Scott Bakel; eighteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and ten step-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Roger and John Bakel, and one sister, Joyce Kavanaugh. He was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnne Childers and brother, Gordon Bakel, two grandchildren, Ricky Arce and Racheal Hayes and one great-grandchild, Jesse Thomas Eckrich.He had a great sense of humor, always making silly gestures and making someone laugh. He was a loving and caring dad who would come to your rescue whenever you needed him.
