Carol Houser, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 3, 2023. She was born December 9, 1931 in Holyoke, Colorado to Frederick and Anna Lutze. She later moved with her family to Colorado Springs where she graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1949. Carol then began working at the Alexander Film Company for two years before marrying William “Bill” Houser in October of 1953. She moved to Ohio temporarily where her husband was stationed in the Air Force. Colorado Springs would eventually become home again once the military commitment was completed. Carol worked various jobs, mostly in customer service and secretarial areas, before becoming a dedicated, hardworking mother to five children. In addition to raising kids, she also enjoyed multiple hobbies including music, sewing, and all things arts and crafts. She would eventually own and operate, with one of her sisters, a craft store and later an alterations business. She loved anything artistic and creative. Carol was a dedicated layperson in the churches she attended over the years. She served in many roles such as choir, church organist, board member, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School volunteer. Her love for her Savior was evident in how she treated others with such loving kindness, and through her service in so many areas. She was loved by family and friends alike for her gentle spirit, kindness, listening ear, sweet smile, and sense of humor and sharp wit. She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Anna Lutze; her husband Bill Houser; brothers Paul Lutze, Ed Lutze, and Les Lutze; and sisters Geraldine Houser, Lois Lutze, Mary McLeod, and Florine Abbott. Carol is survived by her brother, Fred Lutze, of Colorado Springs; children, Scott (Janet) Houser of Litchfield Park, Arizona; Lynette Boyles of Colorado Springs; Roger (Nell) Houser of Colorado Springs; Jolene (Brent) Wyss of Colorado Springs; and Anna (Bob) Scarlett of Colorado Springs. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren Kenny (Avery) Houser of Portland, Oregon; Carolyn (Alec) Rogers of Litchfield Park, Arizona; Blair Boyles of Denver; Liam, Ava, Tessa, and Bryce Houser of Colorado Springs; and Cameron and Toby Scarlett of Colorado Springs; and by her great grandchildren, Maverick, Camden, and Emery Houser (OR) and Raegan Rogers (AZ). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. While a hole is left in our hearts by the loss of this loving sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, we celebrate a long life well-lived. We now rejoice that she is in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, and with many loved ones and friends who have gone before. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the wonderful team from Compassus Hospice who provided such loving, tender care to Carol through the end of her life. She loved and appreciated every team member who came to help her and assist the family in keeping her safe and comfortable. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care, 5475 Tech Center Drive, #105, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919. A private viewing and graveside service for the family will be held in June. A memorial service is scheduled for August 4th at 1:00 PM at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 5055 El Camino Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
