David Charles Peterson

David Peterson, age 55, passed away with his family by his side on September 3, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born on August 3, 1965 in Miami, Florida to David and Lucille Peterson, Sr. He was raised in Indiana and moved to Venice, Florida where he attended Venice High School and the State College of Florida, completing his contractor certification. He married Stefanie, his high school sweetheart, November 28, 1987. David worked with his family's business, Peterson Homes, Inc. and had a dynamic career as a builder and residential developer on the Suncoast. He took over the reigns as president of Peterson Homes and had an excellent reputation for building quality, custom homes in Venice and throughout Sarasota County. In addition to his exceptional career, David loved the water and had a passion for power boat racing. He was both the driver and throttleman on many types of performance racing boats, including his very own Super V Black Pearl. He competed in many powerboat races and poker runs, but his favorite was the Sarasota Grand Prix, which benefitted Suncoast Charities for Children. His passion for this charity was evident whether he was racing boats or riding his motorcycle at Thunder by the Bay. David was a dedicated husband and father. He is survived by Stefanie, his wife of 32 years. Together they raised three wonderful children Austin (Courtney), Paige (Cameron Izzi) and Brooke (Robert Howard). He is also survived by his father, David Peterson, Sr. (June Jehlen), his mother Lucille Peterson, and his mother-in-law Louise Schillinger. His family meant the world to David and his friends were also an integral part of his life. ""Petie"" was always the life of the party and will be missed for his generous spirit. His legacy lives on in those who live life to the fullest. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 12th at 1:00 pm at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. Due to COVID restrictions masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be in place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of David may be made to Suncoast Charities for Children 7015 Professional Parkway East, Sarasota, FL. 34240.
