David Melton

David Aldean ""Whitey/Bud"" Melton, 87, of North Port passed away December 28, 2019 at his home. He was born November 15, 1932 in Miami, Fl to the late Elbert and Cora Evans- Melton. David was a Christian who loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a very experienced handy man who could fix anything and was well versed in AC and Refrigeration. He proudly served his country in the Korean War serving as a Sgt. for the US Marines. Whitey also retired from the Miami-Dade Fire Department as Fire Chief after 34 years of service. Survivors include his daughters; Margo Melton and Amber Silva (Edward) of North Port, FL. A daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Melton of Panama City, FL, one sister, Clarice Legg of Monticello, FL, one brother, Donald Melton of Homestead, FL, grandchildren; Robert Melton (Jessica) of Panama City Beach, FL, Yvonne Purdie (Justin) of Panama City, FL, Andrew Melton (Donovan) of Panama City, FL, Lauren Silva (Austin Drake) of Sarasota, FL, and River Silva of St. Augustine, FL, great grandchildren; Hannah Lawrence, Gatlin Melton, Laikin Melton, Barrett Purdie, Skylin Melton, Rowen Purdie, Kimber Melton and Zen Melton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan Sargeant-Melton, whom he cared for until her death in 2016, one son, David Melton Jr, two brothers, Jack and Leonard Melton as well as four sisters; Lucille Williams, Evelyn King, Hazel Suit and Dena Davis. A celebration of David's life will be 9:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Farley Funeral Home 5900 S.
